The Albanian community in Brighton and Hove marked their country’s Independence Day, alongside representatives from Brighton and Hove Police and the city council.

At a well represented event held at Brighton Town Hall local Albanian guests raised the Albanian flag and sang the national anthem before being invited into the Mayor’s parlour for tea and cakes.

Speeches were made from Brighton and Hove City Mayor Peter West, Enver Godanci of the Sussex Albanian Group and police.

PC Nikki Denero said: “We are working hard to show the Albanian community in Brighton and Hove that they are welcome and are supported by police. We want to increase trust and confidence in police and support the community to have a voice in local policing.”

A cheque for £250 was also presented to the local Albanian Society from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of proceeds from confiscated property.
