Police seek footage of rush hour fight - which saw one man wielding a machete

Sussex Police is urging onlookers to a serious fight in Brighton to send in any footage of the incident.

Officers said a fight had broken out between two groups of men in London Road at 5.45pm yesterday (September 19), with one man reportedly wielding a machete.

Police said a man of Asian appearance, wearing white trousers and a black top, was wielding an axe and glass bottles were being thrown, before the two groups got into separate cars believed to be a black BMW and a Ford Focus.

Detective Inspector Simon Morgan said: “These two groups of men were involved in a serious altercation on a busy road during rush hour. We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any video footage of it.”

Update: Initial reports by Sussex Police said officers were looking for footage of a man wielding an axe. Police have since said this has been discounted after viewing CCTV footage of the area, and said the item in question was a machete.
