Police officers rescued from lift by firefighters

Firefighters came to the rescue when four police officers got stuck in a lift in the early hours of this morning (October 17).

Officers posted a tweet from the Brighton and Hove Police Twitter account at 6.30am, and said: "At the end of a night shift & getting stuck in a lift. The sight of @EastSussexFRS Fire Fighters has never been more welcome #awkward #CS637."

A fire service spokesman said: "East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service rescued four people stuck in a lift in Silwood Street, Brighton, at 5.52am this morning. Two Brighton appliances were mobilised to the incident."

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "This is one of the more unusual hazards of policing."
