A Horsham pub has gained global recognition after winning a major award.

The King’s Arms in Horsham’s Bishopric has scooped a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award – putting it in the top 10 per cent of all pubs and restaurants for reviews on TripAdvisor – globally.

And it comes just 18 months after Michael Gates and Jodie Munday took over as landlords. “It’s been a whirlwind year,” said Michael.

The couple said the award really meant something to them because it was bestowed following customer reviews.

In a social media message to customers they added: “It’s lovely and special and makes us feel warmer than our log burner! Thank you for your support.”

When Michael and Jodie first took over The King’s Arms in May last year, they said they were ‘living the dream’ as they were regulars at the pub having lived almost next door to it for several years.

The couple - who are both musicians and well known on the entertainment scene – described the pub as being ‘like an extension of our living room.’

Neither Michael nor Jodie had ever previously run a pub but both had experience of working in bars and in the catering industry.

Michael comes from a family of renowned chefs and Jodie previously ran an events company.

One TripAdvisor reviewer said: “Food was amazing, it was all delicious. Also as an added bonus, as an ale lover, there was a lovely selection! Well done to the team at The Kings Arms and thank you for making us feel so welcome.”
