Hanover pub The Setting Sun to reopen with new look and menu
The Setting Sun in Hanover is set to reopen in April with a £314,000 refurb and a new menu.
The pub is undergoing an overhaul by Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars and new licensees Fynn Chamberlain and Kathryn Joyce – who manages the Fountain Head on North Road.
Work includes a new kitchen, an overhaul of the toilets and a 'modern industrial' feel inside.
There will be a new, covered pergola area with heaters, and the garden, which seats 20, will also benefit from new furniture and planters.
And the front of the pub will be redecorated and have new signage, the owners say.
The new Setting Sun menu is set to include pub classics such as burgers, sausage and mash, fish and chips, sharing platters and Sunday roast with all meat, fish and vegetables being locally sourced.
Light bites will include as paninis, halloumi fries, buffalo chicken wings and cheesy chips, as well as a children’s menu.
There will be vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, the owners said.
The beer range will include Maltsmith IPA, Beavertown Neck Oil, ciders, and two cask ales.
New licensees Fynn and Kathryn said when they heard the pub was set to benefit from investment they 'leapt at the chance' to take it on.
Fynn said: “We want to reconnect The Setting Sun with the local community and be a great vibrant place to come for a coffee, pint or something to eat. We love the fact that there is a real mix of people on the doorstep from families, to workers, students and retired residents and want the pub to reflect that. It is important to us that everyone feels welcome. With lots of local artists in Hanover, we want to introduce regular artist fairs later in the summer so they can showcase and sell their art.
“We can’t wait to open the pub and are planning a get-together giving our neighbours a sneak preview of the pub before we open the doors to all. We also intend to hold a children and family Easter egg hunt around pub and garden on the Easter weekend.”
Dugald Macer, Star Pubs and Bars regional operations director said: “The Setting Sun was limited in what it could offer before because of its size. The refurbishment increases capacity, brings the pub up to date and makes it a place to go in all seasons, not just at the height of the summer.
“We’re delighted that Fynn and Kathryn are taking on The Setting Sun as between the two of them they have 20 years’ experience running pubs in Brighton. They also know the area, are community minded and are passionate about making the pub central to the Hanover neighbourhood. Pubs like The Setting Sun need this kind of investment and good operators to run them to ensure they stay relevant to their customers. They now have it. We wish Fynn and Kathryn every success with their new venture.”
