£120 million Edward Street redevelopment appoints community liaison coordinator to make build ‘a positive experience’
Communication between Brighton residents and the developer of a major city site is set to improve.
McLaren Construction, the lead contractor at the £120 million Edward Street redevelopment, has hired Gitana Harfleet as a community liaison coordinator - she will be a key contact for local residents during redevelopment of the former AMEX house site.
Due to be completed in Autumn 2021, Edward Street Quarter is owned by property developer First Base in partnership with Patron Capital and developers hope to build a relationship with residents to make the two year build ‘as positive an experience for the community as possible’.
First Base project director Steve Eccles, said: “Ongoing communication with local residents is a key priority for us, especially while construction work is underway.
“Gitana knows the area extremely well, she has over six years’ experience in local customer-facing roles and has worked on other McLaren projects in the region, so we’re confident in her ability to hit the ground running.”
Gitana, who has lived locally for 15 years, will respond to residents’ enquiries and produce newsletters as well as help to deliver McLaren and First Base’s social value strategy which hopes to bring £500 million to the local economy in the next 20 years.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the community around the Edward Street Quarter site over the coming months and will do everything I can to make the two-year build as positive an experience for them as possible,” she said.
Work has now started at Edward Street to construct 110,000 sq ft of office space, 39,000 sq ft of retail, food, beverage and leisure units and 168 new apartments.
