More than 33 infant, primary and secondary schools gathered for a special Healthy Schools Celebration Event at Sussex Country Cricket Ground in Hove last month.

A total of 54 schools in the city achieved at least one of three benchmarks as part of the Healthy Choice Award - a partnership between Brighton and Hove City Council and Brighton and Hove Food Partnership.

This was either the School Games Mark for sport and physical activity, A Smile or I Am Whole award for mental health initiatives or a Healthy Choice Breakfast Club award for healthy eating.

The awards aim to celebrate and showcase the work of schools towards improving physical activity, emotional and social wellbeing, and healthy eating.

Schools at the event were presented with their awards as well as encouraged to make pledges for the next year to promote positive change and make a difference based on these three main themes.

The gathering was also an opportunity for the schools to share experience and best practice.
