Hove school evacuated after deep fat fryer fire

Firefighters were called to Blatchington Mill School in Hove this morning (January 11) after reports of a fire in the kitchen.

The school was evacuated and closed for the day after the incident.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 10.52am, firefighters from Hove and Brighton attended Blatchington Mill School, Hove following reports of a fire in the kitchen area.

“The fire had started from a deep fat fryer.

“The school has been evacuated and is closed for the day.

“The fire was extinguished using 1 in 7 foam and crews carried out ventilation of the area.

“Crews left the scene at 11.50am.”
