Radio station 1BTN celebrates International Women’s Day

Independent radio station 1BTN returns with its annual all-day female takeover for International Women’s Day (IWD) today (March 8).

The station, which launched in 2015, is based in Brighton and Hove and broadcasts worldwide via {http://|www.1btn.fm||www.1btn.fm}.

The 1BTN International Women’s Day Takeover will feature a line-up of female presenters and special guests. The IWD19 campaign theme #BalanceForBetter will be at the heart of the day, highlighting women’s achievements in the music industry, campaigning for gender equality and fundraising for BHT’s Threshold Women’s Services and The Girls Network.

From 8am till midnight the airwaves of 1BTN will be filled with a range of diverse genres including Afrotech, alt-80s, disco, dub, electronica, Funk, Grime, hip hop, house, indie, jazz, Latin, new wave, psych, punk, R’n’B, reggae, riot grrrl, rock, ska, soul, and techno as we celebrate the women in music who have soundtracked our lives.

Presenting live in the studio will be DJs Sista Selecta, Catherine Sones, Ingi Styles, Elle J Small, Isle Of CC, Alex Cella, Miss Polly, Jayne Winstanley, Wendy May, Lisa Lohan, Hannah Sherlock, Nancy Noise, Queenie & Wildblood, Kerry Jean Lister, Sorcha Bridge, Suze Rosser, Clara Suess, Daisha, Katie Blackwell, Heather Shee, Jayney Blam Blam, Molly Pop, Kitty and Polly Hawkswell.

Nancy Noise said: “I’m looking forward to being part of the IWD celebrations with 1BTN this year alongside my sisters who are passionate about music.”

Sista Seleta said: “We believe it’s important to inspire and encourage young women to work in all aspects of the industry and to feel supported in their choices.”

1BTN International Women’s Day Takeover will be fundraising for Threshold and The Girls Network.

Threshold provides support to women in Brighton & Hove with issues including anxiety, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and perinatal depression. Services include 1-1 counselling, wellbeing workshops, intern placements, volunteering opportunities and drop-in sessions. .

The Girls Network’s mission is to inspire and empower girls from the least advantaged communities by connecting them with a mentor and a network of professional female role models. They believe that no girl should have their future limited by their background, gender or parental income.
