PANTO: Robin Hood today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, in Alfriston War Memorial Hall, including a child friendly matinee. ALFRISTON WI: The first meeting of 2016 focused on the Women’s Land Army. Sussex Historian, Ian Everest brought the story of Landgirls and Lumber Jill’s vividly to life through photographs, film and stories including how Lady Denman, the first president of the National Federation of Women’s Institute was herself instrumental in forming the Women’s Land Army. More personally he also talked about his own mother’s life as a land girl. The next WI meeting will be 2pm February 16 in The Old Chapel Centre where the talk has the somewhat intriguing title, A Charmed Life. Visitors are welcome and donations are always appreciated.

ST ANDREWS: Tea and Tables. This new monthly initiative, held in The Cathedral of The Downs is open to all and gathering momentum. Local groups are invited to book a slot, share their interests, promote their activities and encourage locals and visitors to get involved. Tea (and homemade cake) as the title suggests, are obviously available. All proceeds from refreshments go to St Andrews Restoration. The January event was to promote Sing Alfriston, a day of singing workshops on Saturday February 13. There was a steady flow of people all keen to find out more with a number signing up for what promises to be a lot of fun. The next event is February 20 and Cuckmere Community Buses will be there to answer questions and talk about this essential valley service. MUCH ADO: Our award winning bookshop have returned from the Christmas break with an exciting programme. If your new year resolution was to be more creative and write that novel you have inside why not join writer and poet John Davies on one of his two six week creative writing seminars beginning on Thursday in the Barn at Much Ado. Learn more and arrange to join one of the workshops at John’s website www.shedworld.net. Author Debby Holt will be reading from her seventh novel, The Soulmate in the Barn at Much Ado on Saturday February 20 from 3pm to 4.30pm. Join Debby for a reading and light refreshments. Debby tells us that all her books involve wine, you may draw your own conclusions about what will be served.
