A campaign to end animal performances at Zippo’s Circus, which comes to Hove Lawns every year, saw a 5,000-signature petition and Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, calling for a ban.

At Brighton and Hove City Council’s tourism, development and culture committee meeting on Thursday (January 17), Councillor Alan Robins said that the company would bring a human-only circus to town.

The company will bring its Cirque Berserk show to Hove Lawns.

Councillor Robins, who chairs the tourism committee, said: “It is an entirely human circus and that means we will have no circuses using animals in Brighton and Hove.”
