Arundel driver, 18, gets fourth ban

A COLLEGE student appeared in court on his 18th birthday and was banned from driving for the fourth time.

Nathan Douglas-Pryer, of Orchard Place, Arundel, was bought before Worthing magistrates on Thursday (September 10) to face charges of driving without a licence and without insurance.

The 18-year-old, who told the court he lived off overdrafts totalling 4,000, had been stopped in Teville Gate, Worthing, on December 29, 2008, and was arrested for the offences.

The court heard Douglas-Pryer had not attended his previous court hearing and that the charges were, therefore, proved in his absence.

Magistrates heard that Douglas-Pryer had faced several similar charges and had already been disqualified from driving three times.

Chairman of the bench, Rosemary Titley, said to Douglas-Pryer, who stood in the dock in a t-shirt and jeans: "You need to sort your life out.

"Seventy years ago today you wouldn't have been standing there, you would have been fighting for your country as today is the anniversary of when World War II broke out."

Doulgas-Pryer, who said he was due to start a business course at Brighton's City College this week, was fined 400, ordered to pay 86 costs and a 15 court surcharge and was disqualified from driving for two years.

Mrs Titley added: "Don't even think about getting into the driving seat of a car. If you do and are caught, you'll end up in prison."
