The Walk is a joint enterprise organised on a shared basis by the club and St Michael’s Hospice with half the proceeds going to Rotary charities and the other half to the hospice.

Speaking after the cheque presentation, Mr Hodge said: “For the annual 1066 Walk to generate a total of £5,600 last September is an exceptionally good result and we are all grateful to the 170 walkers that took part and to their generous sponsors.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to the 2016 event which will be held on Sunday, September 25.

“It will follow the usual route from Pevensey to Battle with intermediate starts at Boreham Street and Steven’s Crouch.”

The 1066 Walk, which follows in the footsteps of William the Conquerer, takes in historical sites including Ashburnham Forge and Herstmonceux Castle.

It finishes at Battle Abbey, the scene of King Harold’s defeat.

Participants can choose whether to walk four, nine or 16 miles as the walk has various starting points.

Complementary refreshments will be available at the end of the walk.
