Bexhill Horse Show hit by weather

BITTERLY cold weather and a poor weather forecast deterred some riders from attending the Bexhill Horse Show, but hardy competitors and members of the public still turned out in force for the annual bank holiday event.

And they enjoyed a whole day of uninterrupted entertainment as the forecasters were proved wrong and the heavy rain stayed away.

The show provides different classes for all levels of competitors.

It has its origins over a century ago with the Horse Parade of 1903.

Despite the poor recent weather, the Polegrove stood up to the task admirably and the hard work of the organisers ensured the minimum of damage to the ground.

As well as the horses, visitors could enjoy swing boat rides, fairground attractions and the traditional dog show.

The ever impressive collection of blood hounds were also in attendance.

Shire horses paraded throughout the day

Newly elected Rother chairman Martin Kenward made the traditional visit to the show ground.

Ring one hosted the advanced schedule including an events for expert riders, local jumpers and novices.

The working groups and riding horses and ponies featured in ring two.

Best condition and turn out was judged in ring three, as were the junior events and competitions for the heavy horses and veterans.

Organiser Trisha Duckworth said: "It was pleasing so many people turned up despite what the weather forecast said.

"The numbers were down as I think some people were put off but a lot of people still came out. It was cold, but at least it didn't rain properly.

"The showing classes were particularly well attended and the dog show was extremely successful and we would like to thank our sponsor, 'The Studio' at Bexhill Photographic.

"We also need to say a big thank you to all those people who helped on the day and helped to set up the day before who allow the show to go ahead."
