Big names areannounced forRye’s Jazz Fest

THE line-up of Rye International Jazz and Blues Festival is to be announced in full this weekend.

It includes an array of world –class artists and superb live music events throughout the festival, which takes place over the August bank holiday weekend.

The festival is now in its third year and has proved to be a huge success attracting stars such as former Cream drummer Ginger Baker.

Headlining this year is multi-talented jazz pianist and composer Jason Rebello.

The Festival opens on August 21 with gigs taking place at The Mermaid Inn and the festival’s dedicated Jazz Lounge at Rye Community Centre. There will also be other events taking place at local pubs and restaurants.

Julia Biel opens the professional headline concerts when she performs at the George in Rye on Friday August 22 which is sponsored by Consider it Done property specialists.

Julia is a rising star on the International jazz scene and is performing with her highly accomplished trio.

Friday also sees a performance with Italian jazz guitarist Antonio Forcione and Brazilian percussionist Adriano Adewale in the beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church in Rye.

Headline act Jason Rebello will be playing with his quartet on Saturday August 23. He is joined by special guest singer Joy Rose.

Other top draw acts that are performing this year include singer song writer Joe Stilgoe and multi award winning singer Claire Martin, OBE, who has earned the name First Lady of British Jazz.

Festival favourites Earl Okin and the Herbie Flowers All Stars make a reappearance.

Other acts include the award winning saxophonist Simon Spillett and his quartet, which includes bass player Alec Dankworth and the legendary Ronnie Scott’s pianist John Critchison.

Music genres featured at the festival will include Jazz, Blues, Soul, Latin and Fusion.

Alongside the professional concerts the festival programme will include free Butter Market Semi - Acoustic performances, free street entertainment and a cutting edge modern twist on a New Orleans Marching Band .

The main outdoor performance stage will be at The Ypres Castle Inn presenting a range of regional and local musicians playing a wide variety of music.

This year a dedicated performance music venue called the Melting Pot will be a highlight, where great live performances will take place during the day and late into the evening.

It will create a cool jazz club atmosphere with candlelit tables.

A host of other live performances will also take place at venues in and around Rye which will create the festival buzz.
