Bognor park's ban on dogs 'too draconian'

Follow the Queen's example and allow dogs to roam around the only park in Bognor Regis, councillors have been urged.

Joan Aubrey Jones, a leading member of the Hotham Park Heritage Trust, said a proposed ban on dogs being allowed to roam around the green space was too draconian.

Even the Royal Parks '“ such as Hyde Park, Green Park and Kensington Gardens '“ permitted dogs to be off a lead.

Some restricted areas were imposed but up to four dogs for each person were welcomed.

Mrs Aubrey Jones said at last week'smeeting of the Joint Western Arun Area Committee of county, district and parish councillors: "I have known Hotham Park for about 15 years and so far as I am aware we have never had any major trouble with dogs there.

Very rarely do you see any dog poo left lying around.

"A dog kept on a lead can be a very unhappy dog. The council should not be passing a law it will be very difficult to police. Now Hotham Park has been opened up considerably, it will be very difficult to police any dogs off leads."
