Brede Parish Council meet at 7.30pm members of the public are welcome to come and ask questions. Last Wednesday for the Parish Assembly the turn out was particularly poor and I felt sorry for Katy Bourne the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner who put her heart and sole into her speech dispite there only 16 members of the public present. Katy told us that the Sussex Police will have 57 million cut from their budget over the next five years. She said 50 million had been cut from the budget within the last five years and 8 million 8 years ago. Money is gained by ⅓ from local taxation and ⅔ from the government and it is from the latter that the money is withdrawn. Policing has changed with Cyber Crime high on the agenda followed by child exploitation, current and past as well as the usual theft etc. Good News is that from the 1st April Sussex has joined up with Thames Valley, and Surrey to support services for victims. The contract for this area is managed locally and from the bid £3000.00 came back to Sussex for Victim Support. This means the Restorative Justice – where offenders have to listen to victims will be able to increase it’s capicity. PCSO Demi Georgiou has returned to police our area but if you were not at the meeting to hear his talk you would have heard him say that he also covers Westfield, Sedlescombe, Staplecross, and Bodium. He does much of the detective work by listening to local people and he has managed to apprehend some thieving criminals. The Parish Council are very pleased he is back with us.
