I begin with some sad news for those who knew Joan Clare, she passed away recently and will be missed by many. Father Martin said she has gone to a better place. I for one will miss her ‘Hello Darling how are you?’ at the beginning of a phone call and ‘God Bless’ at the end. Her cheery vive for life always lifted my spirits. There is going to be a private Requiem Mass followed by a cremation for Vicky, Father Martin and family on 12 June in Battle. Then on Thursday June 19 there will be a thanksgiving for Joan’s life at 3.00pm in St George’s Brede followed by a sumptuous tea. All are welcome to go and help celebrate Joan’s life..

The first game of the season at the BCG (Brede Cricket Ground) pitted the home side against one of their favorite opponents, Hastings Wanderers. The team were put into bat by skipper for the day by Ed Avann and they had the Wanderers struggling to make much headway against an accurate Brede bowling attack. Only Johnson with a superbly crafted 45* offered much resistance to G.Avann, T.Waters, E.Avann, S.Turner and finally G.Dinning, who wrapped up the innings with 4 quick wickets, keeping the visiting side down to a tea time score of 85.

A fine tea was supplied then the game resumed, Simon Fathers 37* strolled out to bat, after the interval in purposeful mood. Alongside his opening partner George Avann 36* they soon sped Brede to a convincing 10-wicket victory.

Thanks go to Greengrass Gardening Services for sponsoring the match ball and The Red Lion for an incredibly generous post match nosh up.

Hastings Wanderers 85 all out Brede 86-0.

Brede CC v Clive Vale CC on 8th June, had a glorious afternoon for cricket.

Clive Vale were sent into bat at the BCG they amassed 161-9 with fine contributions by C.Brook (65), S.Brook (22) & S.Hurrell (19). Pick of the home teams bowling attack were T.Waters 12-1-39-4, S.Turner 9-1-32-2 & P.Watts 6-0-21-2 who also pulled off a sensational slip catch.

In reply Brede lost 2 quick wickets to K.Patel but Captain A.R.Fryer (45) and former skip S.Newble (31) steadied the ship & put the home team back in the game with a stand of 67 before both falling in quick succession. Vale then started to chip away at the Brede innings, with R.Hurrell & S.Brook particularly impressive and it was only brave resistance from the last pair, Deadbat Grit and I.Sutton that earned Brede a draw.

Thanks again go to match ball sponsor Green Grass Ground Maintenance and The Red Lion for impressive after game snacks.

Clive Vale 161-9 Brede 137-9 Match drawn

We wish them well for their next away game against Mountfield Today.
