Brede & Udimore Luncheon Club meets again next week on Tuesday, June 26, at 12.30 pm in the Village Hall for their monthly lunch.

New members are always welcome and for full details please contact the Secretary, Frances Parnham on 01424-882007. Brede Crafters have their next meeting in the Village Hall on Wednesday, June 27, at 2.00 pm. There is another Village Dance on Saturday, June 30, from 7.30 pm. The programme as usual will include favourite dances from ballroom, sequence, Latin to line dancing. Entrance is £3.00.

Brede Cricket Club are away for a game against The Legion next Sunday, June 24, starting at 2.30 pm and then back at home the following week, July 1, when they meet Northiam at the Recreation Ground.

Following a period of relative inactivity, the Brede Scout Group now has the Beaver and Cubs back in action again. Beavers are for the 6-8 year olds and the Cubs for 8-10½ year olds. Both groups meet at the Scout Hut on Mondays, the Beavers from 5.30 to 6.30 pm and Cubs from 6.30 to 8.00 pm. It is hoped that the Scout Group will also be started again very soon. The Explorers range from 14 to 18 years and then on to Network for 18 to 25 years. A concert to celebrate the life and music of Florence Aylward is being given in St. George’s Church on Sunday, July 1, at 6.00 pm featuring Prudence Raper (contralto) and Michael Paine (piano). Florence Aylward was born at Brede Rectory in 1852, daughter of Mary and Augustus Aylward, who was the rector at that time. Tickets are £10, including wine and refreshments, and can be obtained by calling 01424-882412.

The following Saturday, July 7, at 7.30 pm, Gary Marriot and Duncan Reid are having a musical evening in aid of the Friends of St. George. Tickets will be £7.50, including a finger buffet and glass of wine, and can be obtained from Marion Firman by calling 01424-751165 or at the Church door.

The Patients Participation Group of the Northiam and Broad Oak Surgeries is looking for new members for the PPG. The Mobile Library calls again next week on Tuesday, June 26, from 3.00 to 3.40 pm in Oakhill Drive and 3.50 to 4.25 pm in Reedswood Road. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, June 28, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. Apart from reading books, the Library has audio books as well as access to the internet and reference library.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week will be a Sung Eucharist at 9.30 am on Sunday, June 24, with Holy Communion on Thursday, June 28, and Friday, 29, at 9.00 am and Wednesday, June 27 at 10.00am. The next Messy Church is being held on Tuesday, July 3, at 4.00 pm in Udimore Community Hall. It is for all ages and an adult must bring a child or vice versa. Each meeting is themed, has a creative messy activity, sing song and ends with a shared meal. This meeting’s theme will be ‘Feeding the 5,000’. Trinity Church continues at Broad Oak this Sunday, June 24, with their usual 10.30 am service which this week will be conducted by the Revd. Peggy Heim who will also administer Holy Communion.
