Brighton and Hove's cafes praised in '˜pet-friendly' survey
Three of the city's cafes made the top 100 list of the best pet-friendly cafes in the world, voted for by 10,000 animal lovers.
The poll, by Brighton-based TrustedHouseSitters, found that Gail’s Bakery in Hove, Brighton’s Flour Pot Bakery and Small Batch Coffee made the global list of the most pet-friendly cafes.
Gail’s Bakery in Hove was the most popular cafe with animal lovers who enjoy its outdoor patio area, ranking at number 17 in the list.
Flour Pot Bakery ranked at number 47 and Small Batch Coffee at 60.
Tim Lyons, managing director of TrustedHousesitters, said: “We are extremely proud of the pet-friendly cafes in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas. They have really put us on the map as a pet-loving city. All five coffee shops and restaurants have had numerous recommendations.”
Small Batch Coffee in Brighton welcomes dogs in its cafes and even have a regular well-behaved ferret.
Alan Tomlins, co-founder of Small Batch Coffee explained that his cafe’s popularity may be because it is welcoming of many domesticated animals, as long as they are on a leash and well-behaved.
He said: “We’re thrilled to be named in TrustedHousesitters’ list of the top 100 pet-friendly places in the world! We love dogs and all pets, and have bowls of water and dog treats at all our sites.
“The staff love our furry friends and enjoy taking selfies with them!
“Ninety nine per cent of the time this means dogs, but we get the occasional cat and even have one regular who brings their ferret!
“We’ve always welcomed them, ensuring they are well behaved and not near the food and drink prep areas. We feel they add so much to the atmosphere we try to create of a fun, vibrant community hub.”
From more than 54,000 locations that were recommended worldwide, 30 British places made the top 100 list, making the UK the most pet-friendly place in the world, followed by the USA with 26 locations and Australia with 20.
The house and pet sitting site created its top 100 list after animal lovers in 130 countries shared their favourite pet-friendly destinations.
The list has been released to celebrate the launch of the new TrustedHousesitters app, which goes live this week. It aims to make it easy to connect with caring, verified house and pet sitters who are willing to take care of pets for free.
Available on the App Store, the app is free to download and enables owners and sitters to connect and stay in touch, making the most of local points of interest and places to walk their four-legged friends.
