Together the People was set to take place on September 2 and 3, but the event didn’t attract enough high-profile artists to ‘do justice to the event’, a statement said.

But the event will be back with a ‘bigger and better’ event in 2018, organisers said.

The festival has attracted stars such as Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame, Suede and The Super Furry Animals in the last two years.

A statement from Together the People said: “It is with heavy hearts that we would like to announce that Together the People will not be going ahead in 2017.

“Despite the best efforts of our team, our headline talent options have been limited this year and we haven’t been able to secure the level of artists for TTP17 that we believe would do justice to the eventand the city of Brighton. Instead of pushing ahead and delivering and event that we aren’t happy with, and a less engaging program, we have decided that Together the People will take a rest year in 2017.

“We aim to return in 2018 with a bigger and better event than ever before, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the incredible musicians, performers, traders, staff, crew and of course customers who has made the festival so fantastic in both 2015 and 2016. We look forward to working with you all again in 2018.”

The statement added that to those that had already bought tickets, full refunds would be made.
