Buckswood buck the trend with outstanding results

The Guestling school bucked the national downward trend with the number of students achieving A*-A grades rising to 26 per cent, which is also a rise of two per cent on their 2014 performance.

GCSE results are in line with the national average for A*-C passes but as with many other independent schools, Buckswood sit some of their core subjects at the harder IGCSEs and the A* - C pass mark was 80%.

Head teacher Mark Redsell said: “We are pleased with this year’s results. Buckswood offers more than just GCSEs, and this year’s results are a credit to the hard work of our students and teachers.

“From next year even more of our core subjects will be sat in the harder IGCSE system and judging by out IGCSE results over the last few years, this qualification better suits our students.”

All 64 Buckswood Upper Sixth Form are now off to university with the graduates all accepting places in the UK’s top 50 establishments.

Notable results include Salem Shammakh got A*AAB and is going on to study mechanical engineering with advanced design and innovation at Bath University, Konstantin Korsun achieved A*AAB and is reading economics and management at Kings College London.

Alex Ashton got AABB in maths, accounting, business and Spanish, Victoria Kovalenko earned A*BB and is going on to study politics and international relations at the University of Kent.

“Buckswood has always believed in offering a wide curriculum, giving students many opportunities to gain experiences and qualifications that make them stand out from the crowd” Mr Redsell said.

“This summer has seen the School double in size with the acquisition of a new Woodlands Activity Centre, Farm and Stables, more land and a 26ft Yacht to broaden our students education both inside and outside the classroom across land and sea!”
