It’s hoping to raise £5,500 to enable the station to grow, and ensure the local Brighton and Hove community still has a voice following the takeover of Juice FM by Global in August.

RadioReverb broadcasts a mix of music and speech programmes, with shows presented by older people, those with learning disabilities, new parents, people with mental health problems, the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV.

It also won a National Diversity Award earlier this month, for its community ethos and commitment to diversity.

Geoffrey Bowden, presenter and producer of The RadioReverb Politics Show, said: “This award is recognition not just of the attention the station pays to creating programmes that speak directly to the city’s many diverse communities, but also celebrates the vital role that Reverb plays in Brighton and Hove’s cultural life as the last independent radio station.”

Mother and son duo Sharon Duggal and Ruben Traynor, of the Ruben and Sharon Show, said: “Radio Reverb has supported us from the outset, encouraging our intergenerational voices to be heard and our diverse influences and tastes to be shared with audiences. This is typical of the station, open to new ideas, to reflecting the myriad of local communities and audiences and presenting a truly diverse programme.”

Sophie Cook, a writer, speaker, broadcaster and diversity champion, said: “RadioReverb does a truly amazing job of representing the diversity of this great city in a way that no other radio station could achieve. All of the presenters are volunteers and are at the heart of their communities. It’s great to see that commitment to diversity being recognised with this award but we can always do more. The crowdfunder for our new transmitter will help us to achieve that, making it possible for more people to tune in and celebrate this wonderful city through the great programming that RadioReverb produces.”

RadioReverb director Tracey Allen said: “After over 10 years of making community-focused, not-for-profit radio, RadioReverb now needs your help to buy a new transmitter that will enable us to improve and expand our vital service.
