Bus diversions as engineers fix leak in Brighton water main

Southern Water engineers will need to seal off a bus lane to repair a water main leak in Brighton next week.

The water company said the leak at Upper Rock Gardens and the St James's Street area isn't expected to affect water supplies and it would be fixed on Monday (January 7).

Brighton and Hove City Council said: "We've been informed that there is a major leak at Upper Rock Gardens / St James's Street. @SouthernWater have been notified and will be along shortly to get this fixed."

A Southern Water spokesperson said: "We are aware of a leak to our water main at Upper Rock Gardens/St James's Street in Brighton.

"Our inspector has investigated the site and it has been agreed that our partner Clancy Docwra will carry out works to repair the main from 7.30pm on Monday.

"As the repair work will be in a bus lane, a lane closure is required and buses will be diverted.

"Customers' water supplies should not be affected while we continue our investigations and carry out the repair but if they have any concerns, they can contact our customer service team on 0330 303 0368.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their patience."
