The pastry shop's new vegan offering hit the headlines this week, as it launched in 900 of its 1,850 UK stores.Brighton's shops in London Road, North Street and Western Road were all among the chosen stores to stock the vegan sausage roll, but reports on social media suggest the new product sold like hotcakes, and were out of stock by lunchtime.

A Greggs spokesperson: “We’ve had an overwhelming response from customers wanting to try our new vegan sausage roll. We’re working hard behind the scenes to get more product to shops as soon as we can.”

The vegan sausage rolls were introduced after a 20,000-strong petition by animal rights group PETA.

Instead of meat, the puff pastry contains Quorn filling.
