Running a business is no financial joke. You know you need to have a strong presence online but where to start? And how to prioritise?

There are plenty of opportunities to make small waves on a budget, here’s six tips to give your new (or old) business a boost with little damage to the business account:

1. Network your heart out - Meeting face-to-face is one of the best ways to grow your business and make connections. Brighton has several great meet ups and networking events every month. Brighton Chamber of Commerce is a great place to start. Or think about an event you could put on regularly that could bring people together and share your skills.

2. Create your own group - Think you know your product or service inside out? Friends, family and connections can all contribute to your business - think about creating a Facebook or Linkedin group or gather a few mates in the pub!

3. Discover your creative side - Try your hand at free online tools and apps such as Canva to create graphics for social media and newsletter banners. They have plenty of templates on offer, allowing you to simply drag and drop your images and logo in place and add text. Easy!

4. Social? It’s all in the set up - A little forward-thinking in terms of social set up goes a long way. Utilise social media scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite to manage your accounts in one place. Generally, there is functionality to track your client’s feeds and chosen hashtags so you can share and not miss anything important!

5. A little SEO goes a long way - Using Wordpress to host your website? Yoast is a nifty free SEO plugin that guides you through adding meta descriptions and other quick wins that will help your website climb those Google rankings in no time.

6. Don’t be afraid of email newsletters - E-mail platforms such as Mailchimp allow small business owners to create fun and functional email designs and automated customer alerts with a drag and drop format. With options to send up to 500 e-mails per month for free there is no excuse not to get your message out there.
