A car is reported to have rolled over in a crash on a major South Downs road this afternoon.

AA Traffic says that the car flipped over on the A283 Pulborough Road near the Crown Inn at Cootham, near Storrington.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the accident and drivers were urged to avoid the area if possible.

UPDATE: 86-year-old woman taken to hospital with ‘life-threatening injuries’

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: "At 2.29pm we responded to a road traffic collision at Pulborough Road, Cootham.

"We currently have one fire engine from Storrington in attendance.

"We would ask residents to avoid the area and use alternative routes when travelling nearby.”
