Caring Community founder dies

Bexhill is mourning the loss of Myrtle Bagnell who died at the Conquest Hospital last Thursday.

Miss Bagnall, who lived in Penland Road, was best known as the founder of Bexhill Caring Community for which she also acted as Chairman.

She was 82 years old.

The office in Sackville Road is collected messages of condolence and manager Martin Turner this week said: “Everybody at Bexhill Caring Community was very saddened to hear of the passing of Myrtle Bagnall late on the afternoon of Thursday 28th November.

“She was involved with the Caring Community from the very beginning and was chair of the executive commitee of trustees working right up to the very end.

“Indeed, she was in the Caring Community office only a few days before offering her assistance with helping people with their Attendance Allowance claims. Myrtle was an astonishing lady, always offering help and will be sadly missed.”

The volunteer charity which provides vital services and social contact for the elderly and frail of the town was started in 1965.

This year saw the introduction of its Community Room which was officially opened by Miss Bagnall and is called The Bagnall Room in recognition of her many years of service.

The funeral is to take place at St Peter’s church in Old Town next Friday, November 12, at 1.30pm.

There will be flowers from close family only, and it is requested others instead make a contribution which will be divided equally between the Caring Community and St Peter’s church.
