Police were called to the Co-op store in Abinger Road, Portslade, shortly after 1pm, to reports of a robbery.

Officers said a man entered the shop and went through to the back of the store, demanding that the manager hand over a cash bag that he was securing in the safe.

The man took the bag from the office and made off through a fire escape, police said.

Officers confirmed that no weapons were used during the incident and no one was physically injured.

The suspect is described as a black man, 5’ 10” and of stocky build. He wore a grey or blue tracksuit and had the lower half of his face covered.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something is asked to report online or call police on 101 quoting serial 676 of 25/05.

This follows an incident in February this year at the same store, when staff were reportedly held up by knifepoint robbers.
