Craft Fair: Don’t forget that there’s a Craft Fair of local work in the Village Hall tomorrow, Saturday 25th October from 10am till 3pm. There will be a variety of crafts for sale including jewellery, textiles, ceramics, hand knits, plants and art and refreshments will be available, including speciality teas. There will also be a raffle with the proceeds going to Cancer Research and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Catsfield School: The children of Catsfield School invite you to join them at St Laurence’s Church at 10.45am on Tuesday 11th November for a very special Service of Remembrance.

Football: The football team lost 3 - 5 to Sandhurst away in the Hastings Junior Cup despite being 2 - 2 at half time. Sandhurst are in a higher division than us and it was a good game which we might have won being 2 - 0 up at one stage. We play Crowhurst tomorrow in the league at Crowhurst, weather permitting.

WI walk: The WI walk on Monday saw four intrepid members and one dog starting out at the village, attempting to go to Ashburnham Place where we discovered dogs are not allowed. We drove to Herstmonceux in the hope of parking in the car park next to the Castle only to find it was closed, so in desperation and an hour later (I know it sounds mad) we arrived at Footlands Wood near Cripps Corner. This wood was absolutely magical in the autumn sunshine where the hornbeam, beech and oak leaves were gently glowing in the sunshine before falling on us like confetti. There were no other walkers to bother us, just loads of mushrooms underfoot and a very shy large stag wondering what we were doing. He wasn’t the only one. Wherever we go next, we will remember to take a footpath map.

Kimber’s Men: Mike Cooper has booked a treat for the village next year. On the 21st February 2015 the singing group ‘Kimber’s Men’ will be appearing in the Village Hall with their extensive range of traditional sea songs and shanties. You may have seen them on television - their most recent appearance was last Sunday on Channel Four, unfortunately the details came too late to get a mention in this column last week, however there are several videos of them on Youtube if you just Google ‘Kimber’s Men’. The line-up of five has changed since the original formation of the group in 2001, but they are all experienced performers and make a great sound, singing these wonderful old songs together in harmony.

Clocks: Don’t forget that British summertime officially ends tomorrow night and the clocks go back one hour. When I was young I could never remember whether they went forward or back until my Great Aunt told me that ‘Winter is coming, alas and alack, Now is the time to put the clocks back!’ There was another verse for forward, but I couldn’t remember it and as long as I know this one, I don’t get it wrong!
