Catsfield

Yesterday saw the opening of the Catsfield History Group’s exhibition to commemorate The Great War. It will be on display in St Laurence’s Church until Wednesday 11th June from 10.30am – 3pm, tea and coffee will be available. I haven’t had the opportunity to see it yet, so I can’t comment, but I have heard that it is excellent and well worth a visit.

On Saturday 14th June the fund raisers for St Laurence Church will be holding a Car Boot Sale on the Playing Field from 8.30 am – 11.30 am

Hot and cold refreshments will be available (especially bacon butties!)

On Sunday 28th June the Powdermill Trust will be having a guided wild flower walk through Powdermill Woods. Anyone wishing to join in will be welcome and should be in the woods car park at 2pm. There will also be a ‘Moth Night’ on 3rd-4th July and the nationwide theme is ‘woodlands’. The Trust’s moth-trap will be set up in the Powdermill Reserve on Thursday 3rd July at 9pm and will be opened on the next morning at 9am. All are welcome.

Two games and two wins for the cricket team, but on Sunday at 2pm we play Southbourne at home. They always have a very strong side and unfortunately several of our regulars cannot play, so perhaps it is better not to get too carried away. On Sunday 1st June we played Sedlescombe away who batted first and conveniently finished at tea 146 all out. Tom Hammick was top of the bowling with 3 wickets and 2 wickets each for Andy Williams, Connor Earl and Tom Bristow-Diamond. Unfortunately, the grass was quite long and there were very few 2’s scored, so the scoring was mostly 1 or 4 runs. James Wilson stayed in for most of our innings and carried his bat at 44, supported by Tim Pitman 28 and Derek Fuller 21. Martin Gurr was caught out, but not before hitting two enormous sixes to give our innings a welcome boost. In the end we won by 3 wickets and enjoyed a most convivial afternoon against one of our oldest rivals.
