Catsfield Village Voice

n We look forward to seeing all our members at the Lunch Club this Friday, after having to cancel last week’s lunch because of the icy weather. May I remind helpers that we have a meeting on Friday at 11am to discuss the way we organise the club.

n The Jubilee Choir will not meet this Friday, the next meeting will be on the Friday 24 at 4pm, in the village hall. Barbara had huge support for her first choir practice, she is well on her way to having the choir of 30 that she and David are hoping for. The choice of English for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was very popular.

n Ann Davey sends this report of the very successful ‘sold out’ cabaret, which packed the village hall. “Some 80 people fortunate enough to get hold of the hottest ticket in town enjoyed a wonderful cabaret supper at the village hall on Saturday February 11 hosted by the Jubilee Committee. Thanks to master organiser Vanessa, assisted by the whole committee, the Jubilee year got off to a swinging start. Although the hall didn’t quite look like Caesar’s Palace, it seemed just like Las Vegas with gambling on the raffle, plenty of supper, a licensed bar and the superbly entertaining Ricky Adelaide. He sang Frank Sinatra and the rat pack repertoire followed by, wait for it, Elvis, all to superb backing tracks. A special unexpected treat was two jazz songs sung beautifully without accompaniment by Teri Beall, a member of the audience. The new sound system of the hall was ably run by Aaron, who couldn’t resist singing some Elvis songs himself. We sang some 1950s songs and danced away the second half. We are very grateful to Ricky who gave us an unforgettable evening resulting in an expected profit of well over £500.”

n Other Jubilee news is John Overall’s Right Royal Quiz with some quirky categories on Saturday March 17 at 7.30pm in the hall. Please bring your own food this time, but there is no need to bring your drinks as there will be a licensed bar and a raffle. Tickets at £5 each, with the first drink free, are obtainable from Jim and Sarah at the shop, whose help we gratefully acknowledge. We are also planning a fun disco in the hall on April 28.

n Watch out for the gnomes in the shop, there will be a Gnome Naming competition starting shortly.

n The Parish Communion at St Laurence Church is at the usual time, 9.15am on Sunday.
