Charity walk for anniversary

An Aldwick man has used 50 years of marriage as a chance to raise money for others.

Bryan Wilson marked his forthcoming golden wedding anniversary to Joy by walking 15km for charity along the South Downs.

Aged 77, he was the oldest of the 280 participants in the Just Walk event at Goodwood last Saturday.

His stepping out along the hilly course has raised just over 300 for the work by the Food for the Hungry UK charity among Aids orphans and widows in the poorest neighbourhoods of Kenya.

Aldwick Avenue resident Mr Wilson said: 'I am involved a lot with third world charities. I wanted to do something to benefit other people for our wedding anniversary rather than just have a party where everybody just stuffed themselves.

'It was very worthwhile finishing the walk but I was in agony afterwards. The course was all uphill and downhill and I couldn't walk downstairs on Saturday night.'

Mr Wilson raised the sponsorship through St Mary's Church in Felpham which he regularly attends.

He and Joy (75) were married on August 8, 1957, at Cuckfield in East Sussex. They will celebrate their half a century together with a week in France with all their family of four children and ten grandchildren. The couple are also going on a short cruise.
