Christmas tree festival returns to Battle

The ever-popular Christmas Tree Festival will return to St Mary's Church in Battle next weekend.

More than 34 beautiful and elaborately decorated trees will be on display at the festival, which opens on Friday November 25.

A Christmas market will run alongside the festival on the Saturday with an array of gifts, preserves, fresh flower table decorations and other homemade goodies on sale between 11am and 6pm.

For the first time this year the church and festival will host a special evening concert of music and songs performed by young people from the area under the direction of Alice Osborne-Brown.

The concert will take place on Saturday evening, 7.30pm to 9pm, tickets are £2 each and will be available on the door or in advance from Spoilt Rotten on the Abbey Green.

All money raised on the night will go to the Christmas Tree Festival’s chosen charities - St Michael’s Hospice Phoenix Appeal and The Barnabas Fund for the Relief of Christian Refugees from Syria and Iraq.

The theme for the festival is Christmas Songs or Christmas Music and organisers have introduced a fun quiz, with visitors invited to guess the song or music from the tree decorations.

Visitors will also have the chance to vote for their favourite tree.

On Sunday evening the festival will close with the usual annual Advent Carol Service commencing at 6pm when the winning tree will be announced.

The church will also be open some afternoons during the following two weeks for further viewing of the trees and again on late night shopping evening on Thursday December 8.

St Mary’s Church will be open to visitors wishing to see the Christmas trees on Friday November 25 3-5pm, Saturday November 26 11am-6pm and Sunday November 27 2-5pm.
