Claremont on top of GCSE league tables

Claremont Senior School was top of the GCSE league tables in the county as many schools achieved excellent grades in 2015.

Battle schools did particularly well with Claverham and Robertsbridge Community Colleges in the top three for Rother, excluding Bexhill.

But Claremont came out on top with 83 per cent of children achieving five or more A*-Cs including English and maths in 2015.

Headmaster Giles Perrin said the school will enjoy its ‘top of the league’ results but will not be complacent.

“Students, of all abilities, far exceeded their expectations and potential and we are deeply proud of all the staff and students involved,” he said.

“These results are a testament to the highly supportive, personalised and academically ambitious atmosphere that exists at the school.”

Claremont was also the highest achiever in the county in terms of percentage achieving the English Baccalaureate of 60 per cent. This year’s league table will be the last in the current format due to changes in how schools are ranked.

Claverham were a close second to Claremont with 72 per cent of students achieving five or more A*-C, including English and maths.

Robertsbridge earned 66 per cent.

As reported, Battle Abbey School was not included in the league tables as their students do iGCSEs which are not counted by the department of education. Headmaster David Clark said it would be top of the league if they had been included with 96 per cent.

“We would be quick to point out that the data that generated the tables was flawed, omitting some subjects altogether and painting an unrealistic and unfair reflection of school results,” he said.
