Classic Cycle groupsupports cycling byelaw changes

Bexhill’s Classic Cycle Group has come out in support of the proposed amendment to Eastbourne’s seafront byelaw which would permit safe cycling along the promenade.

Ray Konyn, events co-ordinator for the Classic Cycle Group, says they commend Eastbourne Council for taking this initiative.

“At present, the Eastbourne seafront is a road which causes agitation, fear and concern among family and social cyclists since many do not have the assertiveness to ride along this congested section of road which is also exacerbated by dangerous pot holes,” he said.

“In addition, this section of the Coastal Cultural Trail, which is designed to connect the Towner, De La Warr and Jerwood Galleries by bicycle, is at present rendered fundamentally flawed resulting in it being unattractive for cyclists to make Eastbourne a destination point.

“By permitting this facility, it would definitely add to the attraction of visiting Eastbourne by bicycle.”
