Collage dispels the stigma behind mental health

For the past year, members of the Littlehampton wing of Mind Coastal West Sussex, in Maltravers Drive, have been collecting photos and cuttings of the charity, which provides essential mental health services across the county.

Littlehampton mayor Jill Long and former Worthing mayor Bob Smytherman – along with ex-Emmerdale star Leah Bracknell – revealed the collage inside the charity’s Littlehampton base last week.

Jill said: “It’s a really marvellous collage. It’s so colourful and positive. There are some really nice messages on there.”

The project was inspired by Mind client Jonathan Upton.

It shows the ups and downs of all those dealing with mental health issues, as well as all the activities the group has been a part of throughout the year.

Jonathan said: “It is hoped that the collage not only provides a reminder of good times spent together, but also illustrates that despite our mental health we are a valuable part of our local community.

“Hopefully this will help breakdown any remaining barriers or stigma surround mental health.”
