Compost protesters write to government

CHIDDINGLY parish councillors are joining forces with their MP, district and county councillor to ask for a controversial composting plant scheme to be reviewed at government level.

The proposed composter would be built by waste firm Veolia off the A22 at Whitesmith.

The metallic building, with a barrel roof, would be 15 metres high, 121 metres long and contain almost 12,000 square metres of floor space.

The existing access to the site would be widened to accommodate waste lorries.

Parish councillor Guy Baigent said: 'We held a parish planning meeting last week and it was unanimously agreed we should write to Government Office for the South East (GOSE) requesting the scheme should be called in for consideration by the Minister.'
