Concert marks organ restoration

The majority of the work was completed in time for the wedding season earlier this year but, until now, there has not been an official event to celebrate the joyous sounds that now emanate from its many pipes.

To put this right A Taste of Handel will be held at the Church on Sunday November 17 at 4.30pm. There is to be a performance of Messiah (Part 1), performed by a scratch choir and solo voices.

The organ will be played by Richard Eldridge, the soprano solos will be performed by Grace Constable, Anne Whiteman is the contralto voice, Gary Marriott the tenor and Michael White singing bass.

Alex Smith said: “We are aiming to bring together a scratch choir good enough to make Gareth Malone green with envy. For just £5 you are invited to come and sing along or just listen, to an evening of magical sound. Refreshments will be served after the performance.

“There are still some practices before the date to revise this glorious piece. Come along, sing the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ and get the rush of endorphins that cheer us all up as the miserable, cold autumn days start to creep in.”
