Sussex Police said officers were called to St George’s Road, Brighton, shortly before 9pm to reports of a man in possession of a firearm.

Enquiries led officers to nearby Belgrave Place, the force said, where a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He remains in custody at this time, a police spokesman said.
