Armed police respond to incident in Brighton

Armed police responded to an incident in Brighton on Thursday (July 30).

Sussex Police said officers were called to St George’s Road, Brighton, shortly before 9pm to reports of a man in possession of a firearm.

Enquiries led officers to nearby Belgrave Place, the force said, where a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He remains in custody at this time, a police spokesman said.

They added: “Nobody was injured, and an imitation firearm was recovered from the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing. This was an isolated incident and police are not looking for anybody else in connection with it.”
