Arrests following burglary spate in Brighton

Police searched a property in Brighton today (January 18) following a burglary spate in the city.

Police said seven properties had been targeted by thieves in the Kemp Town area over the past month.

Homes in the College Road, College Gardens, Great College Street, Montague Place and Abbey Road have been broken into at various times of day with a number of electrical items such as laptops and mobiles stolen.

The first property was broken into on December 22. Police said the latest three burglaries took place on Monday and Tuesday, (January 15 and 16) in Great College Street.

Officers searched a property in the city today.

Police said a 40-year-old man, from London, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and a 37-year-old woman, from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. They remain in custody for questioning.

Police said patrols have been increased in the area and investigating officers are actively pursuing several lines of enquiry.

Detective Sergeant Chris Lane said: “We would urge the local community to be vigilant, to assess their home security and ensure doors and windows are secured. We are appealing for information about any suspicious people or activity.
