Award for life-saving police officers after man suffered stab wounds in Steyning

A team of police officers have been awarded for their life-saving actions after responding to reports a man stabbed himself in the chest in Steyning.

PCs Simon Wright and Stephanie Barrett and sergeant Steve Cobbett gave emergency first aid to the man after being deployed to woods in the village.

Chief inspector Howard Hodges, Horsham district commander, presented the award at the Sussex Police West Sussex Divisional Awards on Monday (July 20).

He said: “The man was located quickly despite the large area, having suffered serious stab wounds to his chest.

“Officers administered life saving first aid and remained with him for two hours.

“Without the actions of all the officers involved, the man would have lost his life.”

The awards, held in Arundel Castle, gave thanks to police officers, PCSOs, volunteers and members of the community who have saved countless lives, averted disasters and put dangerous criminals behind bars - all while putting their own lives at risk.
