Billingshurst burglaries ‘not a London gang’

A SPATE of burglaries from Billingshurst homes is not being linked to a London gang, say Horsham police.

Thieves raided six homes overnight on Sunday 8 and Monday January 9. Two more incidents have taken place between Saturday 14 and Sunday January 15.

Targeted properties include two in Lower Church Road, one in Berrall Way, one in Kenilworth Place and one in Barrow Close over Sunday night.

Jewellery, cash and electrical items are amongst the stolen goods.

But Horsham police has told the County Times the offences are not being linked to a gang from London, as rumours circulating in the village suggest.

PS Rachel Carr, of Horsham police, said: “One rumour flying around is that these offences were committed by a gang from London, who are conducted surveillance on the houses in order to break in and steal high value motor vehicles. This is most certainly not the case.

“Billingshurst has again seen a significant reduction in all criminal offences in the last performance year.

“We are keen for these offences not to undo the good work that has been done in the last three years and the trust and confidence that the community have in local policing.

“Whilst we would not want to underestimate the effect that an offence of Burglary can have on the victims this volume of offences is unusual and it is vital that we don’t let its occurrence effect the reality of the volume of crime in the Village.

“High visibility patrols and reassurance remain high on our priority list and the staff located in Billingshurst are keen to speak to anyone who has concerns re the offences or any information in relation to the Burglaries.”
