Officers say an 18-year-old local man was walking along Church Street when he was approached by two men described as white, aged 25-30 and wearing grey tracksuits, who asked what football team he supports.

When he replied “Millwall”, Sussex Police said the suspects kicked him to the ground and continued to kick him in the head. It is suspected others may have joined in before they all made off, possibly in a car, said police.

The suspects also stole the victim’s bag containing work tools and his mobile phone. He was left shaken and with minor injuries, police said.

The incident occurred about 2am on Friday (April 19) close to the junction with New Road.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 129 of 19/04.
