Man charged after police incident in Brighton city centre

A man has been charged after an incident in St James’s Street, Brighton, on Wednesday evening (September 4).

Police say James Jeater unemployed, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with harassment - put in fear of violence, in relation to alleged offences between February 1 and September 5.

Additionally, the 34-year-old was charged with criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 on September 4 and two counts of assault by beating.

The latter two charges relate to two separate assaults on the same victim alleged to have taken place on August 30 and September 1, police said.

He was remanded to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday (September 6), where he was further remanded to reappear on October 30.
