Officers have since obtained clearer CCTV images of the moped, its rider and pillion passenger – captured in nearby Findon Road shortly before the collision – and are appealing for anyone who recognises them to get in touch.

Chief Inspector Rachel Swinney said: “I am extremely grateful to everyone who has assisted in our investigation so far, however I’m still appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

“Do you recognise either the rider or the pillion passenger, or have you seen this moped in the local area? Alternatively, have you received any information about who was riding the moped?
