Detectives are investigating reports of gunshots heard in the East Drive area of Queen’s Park, Brighton.

The incident happened at around 10.30pm on Sunday night (August 4).

Superintendent Julia Pope said: “We know this incident involved individuals known to one another and there is no information to suggest a risk to the wider public at this time. We are actively pursuing a number of lines of enquiry to locate a known suspect.”

“Public safety is our priority and additional high visibility patrols have been deployed in the area to provide reassurance. We have obtained statements from a number of witnesses and I would like to thank the local community for their patience, understanding and cooperation as we continue to investigate this matter.”

Sussex Police says a 42-year-old woman from Brighton, arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of assisting an offender and failing to comply with conditions of a shotgun certificate, has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
