Police said Zanre, from London, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife or a sharp pointed article in a public place.

He was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court today (September 18).

Another 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of affray, police said. The pair remain under arrest and the investigation is ongoing.

Detective Inspector Simon Morgan said: “Monday saw the launch of the national knife crime campaign, Operation Sceptre. This campaign aims to reduce the number of people, in particular young people, from carrying a knife.

“The two who suffered stab wounds as a result of this altercation have been lucky as their injuries could have been a lot worse.

“Carrying a knife does not provide protection, but in fact makes you vulnerable, and as in this case, can place yourself and others in serious harm.

“Officers are carrying out proactive patrols in many areas of the city with the aim of gathering information and to provide reassurance to the community”.
