Drink driverwas swerving

A speeding driver who swerved across the A259 between Icklesham and Guestling has been banned for drink driving.

Ferhat Yalcin, 33, of Woodland Vale Road, St Leonards, was arrested at 5am on 5 December after officers saw him speeding and repeatedly swerving across the road.

Yalcin pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on 21 January.

He already had a previous conviction and ban for drink-driving from 2006 when he was arrested. Yalcin was banned from driving for 36 months and ordered to pay a £200 fine, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Also arrested in the Christmas and New Year crack-down was A pensioner with a history of drink-driving and driving while disqualified.

Harry Brown, 75, was arrested at 5pm on December 1 in St Leonards after officers were concerned that he was driving erratically.

Brown, of Willingdon Way, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis. He was banned from driving for five years, given a 12-week suspended prison sentence. Brown already had five convictions for drink-driving as well as a further six convictions for driving while disqualified.
