Egerton Park Indoor Bowling Club raise over £2,000 for St Michael's Hospice

NOT MANY people would happily pay fines for mild misdemeanours such as being 'incorrectly dressed', but members of Egerton Park Indoor Bowling Club have no such qualms and cheerfully added to the coffers whenever they were 'caught out', raising an impressive £2,253 for St Michael's Hospice.

Len Newing, the club's Mens Captain, said: "We would fine members for anything we could during the last season - even if a zip was undone!

It's been great fun for us and great fun for the members."

Along with fining members at every given opportunity, Ladies Captain Shirley Hall said they had also held two charity events.

She said: "We had a ladies versus mens charity match and we also raised a lot on the charity day raffle."

This is the first time the club has been allowed to raise funds for charity but Len said that thanks to the board of directors giving their permission for the events to take place, during the club's six month season, they are hoping it won't be the last.

He said they chose to raise funds for St Michaels Hospice in St Leonards on Sea because, "it's a local charity that lot of people locally use and benefit from."

He added: "It's gone down really well and people have joined in the fun and spirit of it all."
